MetaMask has recently unveiled Snaps, an application platform that empowers third-party developers to create new features, referred to as Snaps, for the wallet. Users will have the capability to integrate these Snaps into their MetaMask browser extensions.
Upon its launch, MetaMask introduces 34 Snaps, all of which have undergone thorough security audits. These Snaps are designed to enhance user experiences in three key areas: transaction insights, interoperability, and notifications. Specifically, the interoperability-focused Snaps enable users to link their MetaMask wallets to non-EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) chains, including Bitcoin, Solana, Cosmos, and more.
“We are developing MetaMаsk Snaps as an open platform for innovation, and we do not impose charges on developers for releasing Snaps on this platform. We firmly believe in permissionless innovation as a fundamental principle of a decentralized system—there should be no gatekeepers. Innovation should thrive at the pace of the network, not solely within a single development team at Consensys,” stated Christian Montoya, Product Lead for MetаMask Snaps.
